This year's Alafia Fat Tire Festival had a distinctively different feel than the one in 2003.  The trails at Alafia and Boyette were in great shape due to the many hard hours of SWAMP trail work in the wake of the 3 hurricanes which crossed the area in September. Our group was different, too.  Notably absent were Deb and Rebecca, and the subsequent 'men folk' frequenting our campsite...New additions this year were Angela, Lance & Paul's new trailer.

Don & Karen came out but hadn't registered, and, unbelievably, the SWAMP'ers made no exception for a late non-registered guest...no excuses...just 'get out'. There was no "Wait around and see what happens...if we get a no-show, then there will be room..." There was no, "I understand you came all this way, just sit tight, and we'll see if we can make something happen, no promises."  Their presence was missed.

For me, the biggest and best surprise were the new trails and improvements at Boyette.  The trails there, especially in the northeast corner are just outstanding - real swoopy.
