Red Trail Racing

The Vortex

Summer 2006

This past Saturday Red Trail Racing put on the first event in the newly designed Vortex freeride area, a freeride competition and dirt jump contest, it went extremely well. Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, there were no major injuries (although there were some spectacular crashes - yikes!) and turnout was the largest I've seen at a local freeride event including lots of enthusiastic spectators. And I saw my first back-flip on the dj course - again, yikes.

The Trail to Trail race (involving both road and trail riding) was held Sunday, it used most of the red and blue trail in the Vortex section, it also went well - sorry I have no pictures of this since I was busy participating.

Volunteers and Red Trail Racing staff spent a lot of time working on the trails and features before the events, and members of OMBA's new bike patrol turned out for both events and helped course marshal for the Trail to Trail race. This was an awesome weekend with a great dynamic of bringing groups together that wouldn't usually associate - road racers, x-c racers, freeriders and dirt-jumpers.

OMBA has it's monthly club meeting coming up tomorrow where we'll discuss the upcoming fat tire fest, they will also hold their second skills class at the skills development area at the Santos trailhead, Saturday will be the monthly trailwork day. The mountain bike scene on the Greenway is doing really well.
