OMBA - January Happenings:
Claudia has retired from
Treasurer while she and Rich
focus on being Registration Gurus for the Fat Tire Festival
coming up. We've sorted out PayPal problems and online memberships will work
again. We can blame spammers for the confusion. Claudia is also retiring as
Patrol Coordinator. In both areas she has brought the club to a new, most
excellent level and her efforts are so appreciated.
The Treasury and Membership
duties have been passed on to Curt Reffner, of Landbridge fame. He will continue
to streamline our accounts! Curt has been very active with workdays and
planning for the FTF.
Joan Bernat will lead the Patrol
gang. Joan also has been a big help at workdays, photographing events, as well
as updating our website. Look for an upcoming training session if you enjoy
being a goodwill ambassador for Santos!
Another big change was the
retirement of Bill Klausmeyer, trailman extraordinaire as our Webmaster. Bill
has played a tremendous part in keeping the club together via the net, giving us
a unique personality! He'll still be around posting those new green arrows for
the Epic course. This project is near completion. You can now leave the main
trailhead and go all the way to 484 and back without repeating trail. It takes
you through the LB Trailhead for water and bathrooms both ways.
Taking on the Website Master
duties is our creative genius, Lindsay Bigelow (Cranky!). We couldn't be
luckier to find a rider with talent and brains! Lindsay designed our FTF
poster, all the cool maps, and is working on the T-shirt.
Interest is gaining in the
Fat Tire Festival, and we are pleased to introduce Chris Bissett to the club activities as
Epic Ride Co-coordinator. He has been involved with adventure racing and will
make sure our guests are well taken care of! He'll be working with Pete Axson
and Kevin Mulholl for sag stops. SWAMP Club will also pitch in.
My savior of the month is
Valerie Naylor. She stepped up to handle the food for the FTF. We are
guaranteed healthy, satisfying, original morsels! Linda Williams is our
hostess at the LB trailhead for lunch. We need coolers, tables, trailers, etc.
to set things up. Let us know if that's up your ally!
Also in January, the Ocala Runners Club graciously advertised
the Ride, Roll, Run Relay for the Greenway in their newsletter. We are looking
for 35 trail runners, 35 bikers to pair up with equestrians in this unique race
February 24th. See the link on the website to find a team. Also the ORC
has graciously offered their tables and coolers for the festival!
I've been in touch with
IMBA, and the Trail Crew plans on
making the FTF special. The word is out. If you travel to a southeastern venue,
take a FTF poster with you! E-mail me at
RMBlaney@cox.net
I'm sure I've forgotten
something, so come to our February meeting January 31st!!! 6:30pm at the
Sheriff's substation near the trailhead. Ride beforehand and grab some pizza
at the meeting this month! Yum.
Enjoy the trails!
